A ONE MONTH INTERNSHIP REPORT CARRIED OUT AT AYEMBE INVESTMENT AND CREDIT SOCIETY (AICCO) YAOUNDE FROM THE 01ST SEPTEMBER TO THE 1ST OF OCTOBER 2021

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The internship report takes into account the practical experience obtained during my two months field study with AICCO Yaounde’. All information contained in this report is for academic purposes are being held confidential. The report is centred on AICCO microfinance institution, their products and services, experience obtained, SWOT analysis, distinction between theories and practical, difficulties faced recommendations and conclusion.

The report begins with introduction which takes into account the background of study, the definition of internship, characteristics, objectives, importance and limitations of internship.

Secondly, an overview of the organisation with special attention on the introduction, the brief history of AICCO, their products and services, objectives and mission of the institution, branch organisational structure and functions of the various departments. Also, the report continues with the training programs, which entails a detailed description of the various areas of study and operations or activities of all departments with focus on some tasks assigned to the intern.

In addition, the report brings in critical analysis and focuses on the relationship between theory and practical, SWOT analysis of the organisation.

Finally, the report ends with the problems encountered, recommendation/suggestions and conclusion, describing the organisation according to evaluations or assessments in the critical and SWOT analysis.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Micro finance is a term used to describe the practice of providing financial services such as micro credit, micro-savings, and micro-insurance to income earners. This helps them to accumulate useable large sum of money. This expands their choices and reduces the risk they face. As suggested by the name most transactions involve small amounts of money

AICCO like many other financial institutions was created with the aim of reducing poverty through its banking services, AICCO carries out banking services like receiving money from individuals and corporations through different ways and lending this money to business men and companies in variety of ways to maximize returns and at the same time maintain liquidity to meet the daily demand of its customers

1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE INTERNSHIP

Internship is a requirement by the university as a partial fulfillment for the award of Bachelor’s degree. Against this backdrop I was privileged to do and internship for a period of one month at AYEMBE INVESTMENT AND CREDIT UNION. Internship is designed to extend a students learning opportunity beyond the classroom setting. An internship allows a student work with a business organization to gain hand-on experience in professional work related environment related to their academic and career interest. Internship enables students to relate experience to knowledge and skills that they have gained through classroom instructions.

University of Toronto defines internship to be a short term experience which can build skills in a specific field or career area. They also put it that, internship is an intentional learning agenda while job seeks remunerations.

Internship is an opportunity to integrate career related experience into undergraduate education by participating in a planned and supervised work. Internship also provides a real world experience to those looking to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular career field. Internship is usually short term in nature with the primary focus on getting some on the job training and taking what is learned in the classroom and applying it to the real world Also internship helps provide students with experience and relevant skills to get into a particular field (career).

Internship is a short term program with primary focus of getting some job training in order to be able to match up lectures (theory) with what is practiced in the real world. Interns usually have supervisors who give them tasks to carry out and evaluate their overall work.

This internship is done by the student of UB on an annual basis. That is, it is done yearly. UB sends out students on internship unlike other schools for them to gain more practical skills.
