ABSTRACT


This research is titled “The Effects of Parental Involvement on Children’s Academic Performance In Kumba II and III Municipalities”. The main aim of this study was to investigate how parental involvement affects children’s academic performance in Kumba II Municipality. The four specific objectives set for the study are : 1) To examine the effect of parents’ communication on children’s academic performance. 2) To examine the effect of parents’ volunteering on children’s academic performance. 3) To examine the effect of parents’ decision making on children’s academic achievement. 4) To examine the effect of parents’ provision of learning materials on children’s academic achievement. The research design was the descriptive survey. The population of the study comprise of all secondary schools in the Kumba Municipality. The random sampling technique was used in the study. Data was collected from 4 schools. Data was analyzed descriptively and hypothesis tested. Findings obtained revealed that; 1) parents communication has an effect on children’s academic performance. 2) Parents volunteering affects children academic performance. 3) Parents decision making affects children’s academic performance. 4) Parents provision of learning material affects children’s academic performance. Based on the findings it was recommended that parents should consider the need of being effectively involved in the education of their children and children should also get their parents involved in their education.
