ABSTRACT

The study titled “A Study on Globalization and Economic Development in Cameroon” aims to investigate the relationship between globalization and economic development in Cameroon, assess the challenges associated with globalization, and explore the role of the Cameroon government in enhancing globalization. The research objectives guide the study, which adopts a case study research design, employs quantitative research methodology, and draws upon the theory of mercantilism. The first objective seeks to examine how globalization contributes to economic development in Cameroon. Through the case study approach, the study will analyze the various aspects of globalization, such as international trade, foreign direct investments, and technological advancements, and their impact on economic growth and development in Cameroon. Quantitative data will be collected to measure the extent of globalization and its correlation with economic indicators such as GDP growth, employment rates, and poverty reduction. The second objective focuses on assessing the challenges of globalization in Cameroon. The study recognizes that globalization can pose both opportunities and challenges to developing countries. Through quantitative data collection and analysis, the study will identify and examine the specific challenges faced by Cameroon in the context of globalization. These challenges may include issues related to income inequality, trade imbalances, cultural erosion, and environmental degradation. The third objective aims to examine the role of the Cameroon government in enhancing globalization. Drawing upon the theory of mercantilism, which emphasizes government intervention and protectionist policies to promote economic growth and national interests, the study will assess the actions and policies of the Cameroon government in facilitating and promoting globalization. This will involve analyzing government initiatives, trade policies, investment regulations, and strategies aimed at attracting foreign direct investments. The study will utilize quantitative research methodology to collect and analyze data from various sources, including government reports, statistical databases, and surveys. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis will be employed to examine the relationship between globalization and economic development, identify challenges, and evaluate the role of the government. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the relationship between globalization and economic development in Cameroon. The research will provide insights into the specific opportunities and challenges faced by the country in the era of globalization. Additionally, the study will shed light on the effectiveness of government policies and interventions in enhancing globalization and promoting sustainable economic development.
