ABSTRACT

The aim of this research project was to investigate the “The Impact of Continuous Assessment on the Attainment of Historical Facts of Students in Secondary Schools in Buea Municipality”. The study was guided by three specific objectives; the effect of test on students’ attainment of historical facts; the effect of group work on students’ attainment of historical facts; and the effect of quizzes on students’ attainment of historical facts in secondary schools in Buea Municipality. The research objectives were later transformed into research questions. The study made use of a survey research design with a sample size of 80 students of three secondary schools in the Buea Municipality. The Likert scale questionnaire was used to collect data for the study and the descriptive statistics was used to analyse the data collected from respondents with the use of simple percentages, tables and figures. The finding of this study revealed that; test, group work, and quizzes have a positive effect on students’ attainment of historical facts in secondary schools in the Buea Municipality. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made; the researcher recommended that classroom teachers should regularly give test to students in order to enhance their attainment of historical facts; that group work should always be given to students, this encourages team work and exchange of ideas, as it will go a long way to improve on their attainment of historical facts; and that teachers should sometime surprise students with quizzes as it will enable them to always get set for the exams as well as foster their attainment of historical facts.
