  • Definition of Internship

An internship can be defined by the 8th edition of the oxford advance learner’s dictionary as a period of time during which students or new graduates get practical experience in a job. It is an opportunity to integrate career related experience into an undergraduate education by participation in a plan and supervise work.

An internship is a course program that is planned or supervises and carried out within a particular time period. It can also be considered that period of time within which a student studies where he or she has got to go out of the class room and try to get some particular knowledge of what have been thought in class concerning their field of studies.

An internship is also defined as an opportunity given to students and potential employees to gain experience as accountants, auditors, managers and marketers. This opportunity is given to students to go out and see what is actually happening in the professional world and what enterprises and companies and companies faced with their competitors in the business world.

Internship also provides real world experience to those looking to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a practical career field. Internship is relatively a short term in nature with the primary focus on getting some experience on the job training and taking what is learned in the classroom to apply in the real world situation. Interns generally have a supervisor who assigns specific task and evaluates the, on their overall work. Interns can be a high school or university students interested in trying a new career.

Many university students do internship to gain experience in a career field as to get exposure to determine if they have a genuine interest in their field of studies.
