ABSTRACT

The challenge of the application of managerial norms and standards in the public sector in terms of the management of public developmental projects. Unlike most civil services, SOWEDA is under a performance contract with the state as development objectives are yearly set which achievement is compulsory. The whole network of the south west development authority is set to maximize strategies unto optimal performance.

This internship report is based on an internship carried out at the South West Development Authority (SOWEDA) from the 6th of august to the 27th of September 2019. Focus was on the accounting principles and the supporting documents used by this establishment. The main objective of the accounting department was to record the day to day transactions of the organisation and the preparation of all supporting documents with regard to a particular transaction.

There is a pragmatic and strategic display of resources and organizational chart and mission of the institution and are adapted to the context. My training as in the accounting department had the floor to meet with facts and experience on the ground daily application of principles and skills beyond the academic sphere with Practise makes perfect. Lessons of life and accounting filled our short term internship. It is a reviving experience.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION AND PRESENTATION OF THE PLACE OF INTERNSHIP


1.1 Background to the Study
The university of Buea offers bachelor of science degree in the following programs; economic, accounting, management, banking and fiancé just to name a few. These departments aim at training professionals to equip them with modern technics which will prepare them for the job market.
Therefore, as a requirement for the degree of bachelor of science in accounting, the university sends out students to the field to gain practical knowledge about what is being thought in school, this training is usually known as internship, as an effort to integrate my theoretical knowledge with practical I was fortune to gain an internship placement at the South West Development Authority Buea.

DEFINATION AND SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP
Internship is an opportunity to integrate career related experience into an undergraduate education by participating in a planned and supervised work. This report covers activities of the South West Development. Information in SOWEDA is disclosed. The process of how transactions are recorded is emphasise, recording of financial transaction is using computers.

1.2 CHARACTERISTIC OF INTERNSHIP

• It involves a supervision that is mentoring and educative
• It must be completed before a student graduate from the university
• It contributes to the student personal and professional development through challenging work assignment.
• It includes career related experience that complement what is learnt in the classroom.
• A student will have a reflection and evaluation process after the internship
• Internship is most successful when the student, university and the employer all share the responsibility in making it a valuable experience.
