This piece of write up is focused the various diagenetic processes that affects carbonate rocks as a whole and limestone in particular. Making a review of how these limestones are formed, their environment of formation and some typical examples and the mode of formation of some limestones like chalk, tufa, travertine, oolites/pisolites and coquina. Emphasis have been made on how these diagenetic processes affect the porosity of limestone and in a long run, the quality of limestone as a reservoir rock for petroleum accumulation. The distribution of limestone has also been outline and their economic potential in the health sector, agricultural sector, in cosmetics and also in the engineering and constructions sectors.
