THE KILLINGS AND BURNINGS IN EGBEKAW VILLAGE

“November 6, 2023
The cruel and inhumane acts of violence perpetrated in Egbekaw, Manyu Division, South West Region, where at least 30 people were brutally killed and over 20 houses burnt is unacceptable. We confirmed that several civilians including men, women and children who sustained injuries are currently being attended to at several health facilities in the area.
The incident witnessed the invasion of Egbekaw village between the early hours of 2:00 AM and 7:00 AM today Monday November 6, 2023. Separatist Fighters attacked the neighborhoods of Government Practicing Primary School (GPPS) towards Apostolic Church Egbekaw causing havoc and inflicting severe injuries on residents. CHRDA correspondents in the field are monitoring the situation closely and we will release a more detailed report as regards this incident
In the meantime, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire Egbekaw community. We also wish a speedy recovery to those injured. Civilians and civilian objects are not and should not be targets as provided by the International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law.
CHRDA calls on State authorities to carry out investigations on the incident and hold the perpetrators of such heinous acts accountable for their actions. We equally urge Separatist Fighters to desist from targeting civilians and civilian properties.”
