ABSTRACT

This internship report takes into account the practical experience obtained during my two months field study at the South West Development Authority (SOWEDA) Buea. All information contained in this report is for academic purposes are being held confidential. The report focused on the accounting principles and the supporting documents used by this establishment.

The main objective of the accounting department was to record the day to day transactions of the organisation and the preparation of all supporting documents with regard to a particular transaction. There is a pragmatic and strategic display of resources and organizational chart and mission of the institution and are adapted to the context. My training as in the accounting department had the floor to meet with facts and experience on the ground daily application of principles and skills beyond the academic sphere with Practise makes perfect.

Lessons of life and accounting filled our short term internship. It is a reviving experience.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to Internship

Report on training in SOWEDA Buea, South West region of Cameroon. This training serves to acquire professional skills and bridge the gap between theory and practice. The internship was carried out over a period of two months and aims to describe the practical steps carried out in SOWEDA
Internships offer the possibility of combining professional experience and academic training by participating in scheduled and supervised work. During this training period, students have the opportunity to apply what is taught in school. It allows students to connect with colleagues at work and familiarize themselves with the work environment.
1.2 Characteristics of Internship
 It provides substantive and challenging work experience.
 According to the University of St Thomas, it entails supervisors being assigned to students which is mentoring and educational.
 Opportunity to observe professionals in action: participate in staff meetings, client meetings, attend presentations and/or conference workshops and with professionals in the department (from university of St Thomas).
 It is usually a short period of time in which students gain personal and professional development through challenging work assignments and tasks.
1.3 Internship Objectives
There are always objectives in every activity that humans carry out, as such below are the objectives of the internship.
 To familiarize students with business practices and procedures used in different organizations.
 To provide students with early work experience that can prepare them for their future careers.
 To enable students to put into practice the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies.
 To improve skills that will help students find jobs in the future (e.g. writing resumes, interviewing etc.)
1.4 The Importance of Internship
This field of work is very important to students, training centres and universities as follows.
1.4.1 To Students
 It facilitates the integration of the theoretical knowledge learned in school with the practical knowledge picked up via study.
 We also discuss the difficulties we experience in our field of study and how to solve them.
 Assist us in completing the requirements for an accounting bachelor’s degree.
 It increases the effectiveness of office work, teaches us about our obligations, and how to collaborate with others.
 It enables us to consult with subject-matter experts who provide us advice on what it takes to succeed as professionals.
